Current Educational Problems : Disorientation of Education
The purpose of education is to improve the quality of human resources by educating students with knowledge and ability to analyse. The focus of good education is not about achieving good mark but it is about involving the students in a learning process of critical analysis. Currently, every school and students are preparing for the final examination. The final examination has turned into a school competition in that every school wants their students to achieve the highest mark in every subject. Consequently, schools put students under a lot of pressure. Classroom activities do not longer focus on the learning process because the priority is the best final examination result. Teachers give practice tests or demonstrate the quickest way to answer question but they do not give adequate explanation. The learning activities are not focused on the academic skills and students’ critical analysis. While students are now under pressure, they do not enjoy their studies in the classroom. This condition shows that our education does not reflect a good educational process.
To solve this problem, we need supports from the government, teachers and students. The government and teachers should work together to create a better educational system for students. They have to develop a process-oriented-educational system because if the orientation of education is the final result, it would be unfair for the students as this could increase the incidence of cheating during the examination. The government should restructure the system through regulations so that schools could provide better education to prepare students to compete in the globalization era. Teachers should teach in more interesting ways because there are a number of educational aspects that could not be taught without teachers- and students-students interaction. The students should have a space to analyse the information being taught so that they would be able to better understand the subject matter.
Due to disorientation of education, our education currently needs a lot of improvement to facilitate students’ critical thinking and analysis. The focus of education should then be on learning process and not on the end result. Therefore, the government and teachers should collaborate to solve this problem by restructuring the system to provide students with a better education and to prepare them to compete in the future.

in some cases I agree with you. but I’d like to share my opinion.
in my understanding; the main purpose of education should be wisdom. nowadays we got so many educated people but only a few wise people. an educated person without wisdom can much more danger and creates more destruction than uneducated person. it is like a powerful weapon in wrong hand (the knowledge and analitycal ability) . it is impossible for an uneducated person caused global recession in the late of 2009 or corruption in our country, Indonesia. educated people cause much more trouble and disaster in human history.
what is Wisdom actually ? what a wise person will do ? still in my understanding, wisdom is an ability to think holistically and strategically. an educated person will think only strategically but a wise and educated person will think both strategically and holistically. a wise man will not think only the result of her or his action, but also the impact of the action or the process toward the environment and the society. a wise man will act without ego, without personal intention. everything he does is for the good of society and he realize he is the part of the society. if the society become better, he will be better automatically.
to create wise and educated people, the education of human values is a must. besides of secular knowledge, students must have a profound understanding and awareness in human values. what are the human values? they are Truth, Right Action, Peace, Love and Nonviolence. actually those five values are the ultimate universal spiritual values. all religions teach those values, but because of politic and power interest all religion have distorted those values and create blocks among the society.
besides of government intervention and teachers-students cooperation, parents care is very essential. the education of human values must begin from home. parents have to teach by example not only by words. because it is easier for children to learn by example than by command or words. parents have to purify their thoughts, words and their deeds so the children not polluted by hatred which is can leads them become a cruel person.
last but not least, I’d like to emphasize that we have to work together for a better society. it is not only government, teachers or parents responsibility. it is everybody’s responsibility.
and personally, I’d like to say thanks very much to schools that have adopted the human values in to their curriculum. May all being be happy.
