Current Educational Problems : Disorientation of Education
The purpose of education is to improve the quality of human resources by educating students with knowledge and ability to analyse. The focus of good education is not about achieving good mark but it is about involving the students in a learning process of critical analysis. Currently, every school and students are preparing for the final examination. The final examination has turned into a school competition in that every school wants their students to achieve the highest mark in every subject. Consequently, schools put students under a lot of pressure. Classroom activities do not longer focus on the learning process because the priority is the best final examination result. Teachers give practice tests or demonstrate the quickest way to answer question but they do not give adequate explanation. The learning activities are not focused on the academic skills and students’ critical analysis. While students are now under pressure, they do not enjoy their studies in the classroom. This condition shows that our education does not reflect a good educational process.
To solve this problem, we need supports from the government, teachers and students. The government and teachers should work together to create a better educational system for students. They have to develop a process-oriented-educational system because if the orientation of education is the final result, it would be unfair for the students as this could increase the incidence of cheating during the examination. The government should restructure the system through regulations so that schools could provide better education to prepare students to compete in the globalization era. Teachers should teach in more interesting ways because there are a number of educational aspects that could not be taught without teachers- and students-students interaction. The students should have a space to analyse the information being taught so that they would be able to better understand the subject matter.
Due to disorientation of education, our education currently needs a lot of improvement to facilitate students’ critical thinking and analysis. The focus of education should then be on learning process and not on the end result. Therefore, the government and teachers should collaborate to solve this problem by restructuring the system to provide students with a better education and to prepare them to compete in the future.
Challenges for Economic Development of Tourist-Related Business in Bali
Bali, one of the most popular islands in the world, is well known as an island of tourist’s destination. As a tourist’s destination, Bali has enjoyed a rapid development in infrastructure and it affects Bali’s economy which is now dependent on tourism sector or other tourist-related businesses. The economic dependence on this sector is quite dangerous for the stability of the island’s economy because tourism can be affected by national, regional and international issues. Because the Balinese people too much depend on the industry, the local government and people should work together to develop other industries which could reduce the economic dependence on tourist’s business as well as to create a conducive condition to develop the industries.
They should develop other sectors related to tourism industry but not as fragile as the industry. There are a number of sectors such as handicraft industry and agriculture industry which could be developed by the local government and people. The development of these two sectors could support the tourism development and reduce the dependence on tourist business at the same time. For example, if handicraft industry has well developed, people could export the handicraft to other countries as well as sell it as a trademark of Balinese culture for tourists.
To create a conducive condition for these industries, the local government can enforce regulations and policies to build a sustainable industry. They are not only about how to develop the industry in the long term but also how to create supportive condition for the industries. Such a condition is important to maintain because without which the industries can not develop. Private enterprises need to be encouraged to participate in development the industries.
In conclusion, to solve the problem of being heavily dependent on tourism, we need the support of both from the local government and people. They should also work together to create a conducive condition for the industries.
